Stephanie & Anthony: Sophisticated Australian City Wedding
Well, in addition to being a newly-wed, she is also an extremely talented wedding photographer! Lucky for us, she was nice enough to submit a wedding that she recently photographed, along with her interview of the bride, to feature on EB.
Here is Kirralee's interview with Stephanie:
How did the newlyweds meet? Is there any special story?
We first met in first year at University of Melbourne but lost touch in later years as we had different commitments. We reconnected at a friend’s wedding in 2007, however, it still took Anthony months to actually ask me out. When he finally did, he was so nervous that his voice was shaking. And I was so surprised that I told him ‘I’d get back to him’. Obviously I said yes, eventually.
When and where was the wedding?
The wedding was held on Sunday 9 May, 2010. We had a traditional church ceremony at the Immaculate Conception in Hawthorn. The reception dinner was at the Willows.
Tell me about the photographer?
We took a liking to her previous portfolio almost immediately and arranged a meeting with her. Kirralee was very accommodating of our needs and schedule on the day. What really impressed us was that she set an afternoon aside to visit all of the locations we had in mind and discussed the various ideas.
Tell me about the venues used?
We both wanted a traditional ceremony and we chose the Immaculate Conception as it’s a beautiful bluestone building but also because Anthony mistook it for the City Hall during one of our first dates. As for the reception venue, we short listed a handful of places but as soon as we saw the Willows, we knew it was perfect for the intimate gathering that we wanted for the reception.
What did you walk down the aisle to?
‘Dream’ by Priscilla Ahn was playing as I walked down.
Tell me about your first dance?
We knew that we wanted to have ‘Suteki da ne’ (Isn’t it beautiful) from Final Fantasy X as the first dance and our good friend (and dancer), Jane choreographed the whole routine. The highlight had to be the dip, which took many attempts to perfect.
Did you DIY any details?
We made the invitations, bonbonniere tags as well as the ceremony handouts. I also hand sewed the pew bows myself.
Tell me about the special details of the wedding? (Do they correspond to the photos?)
Walking through the shower of bubbles as we exited the church.
The tea ceremony just before the reception.
Tell me five things, which made your wedding special to you?
Seeing all those little details which took hours of planning turn into reality.
