15. Absolute Duo
This series may be a surprise to many for its rank, but like the traveling-to-another-world theme, the soul-manifests-as-a-weapon trope has found its popularity with recent titles such as Chivalry of a Failed Knight. Much like last month’s #15 Trinity Seven, Absolute Duo features a harem of girls that keep fans coming back for more.
14. Charlotte
Reminiscent of the wildly popular series Angel Beats, fans are proving once again that they can’t get enough of Jun Maeda’s shows. It’s no wonder with his background working on similar hit series such as Clannad, Air, and Little Busters. (I think he might like soft-and-fluffy stories.) If you like any of these shows, we think you’re part of the crowd that helped bump Charlotte up to the top 15.
13. Death Parade
Also known as the anime whose opening we’ve put on repeat for…
12. SHIMONETA
Y#^$N1t?! No! Why am I being censored – that wasn’t even a cuss word?! Maybe it has something to do with strict new laws enforced by this alternate Japan in SHIMONETA, A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist. (I didn’t capitalize that for fun – that’s actually the whole title!) Fan service titles have always done well, but when you combine a heaping dose of great comedy, you get spot 12 on our top sellers list.
11. Fate/Zero
When Aniplex announced they were doing a very limited reprint of the Fate/Zero box sets, Right Stuf Anime customers have been pumped and are eagerly snatching up this release before its gone again. It’s no wonder it’s been bumped to the top sellers.
10. Overlord
Did we already mention we love traveling-to-another-world stories? No? Well, let me tell you about Overlord. Momonga’s favorite video game is soon shutting down its servers, and Momonga wants to spend as much time left in the game as he can until it’s gone forever… Except when it’s shut down, he’s still in the game, permanently transformed into his character! Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, and now Overlord joins the ranks of great MMO series.
9. My Hero Academia
No, you’re not wrong. The My Hero Academia anime does NOT have a physical release… yet. The manga just did that well this month, thanks in no small part to our VIZ 30th Anniversary promotion that has now concluded. With the rise in popularity of Western comic book superheroes and their movie adaptations, it’s no wonder Japan wanted a slice of that pie. And what can we say? My Hero Academia panders far too much to our taste buds.
8. High School DxD
There are a few rare fan service titles that get more popular than High School DxD, and when Funimation decided they were going to do a limited edition of the latest season, fans immediately bought it. If you haven’t been keeping up on the show, or haven’t seen it since it aired last year, now might be the time to check up on your supernatural harem before the limited editions runs out for good.
7. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (previously number 9)
Once again, the beloved Haruhi has held steady on our top 15 list. It may be ranked slightly higher than last month, but we partially attribute that to the removal and separation of our Gundam titles (which we’ve moved down below). Still though, when a series persists on being one of the top selling titles for several months in a row, that’s nothing to wag a finger at.
4. Sailor Moon S (previously number 1)
This month, we have three titles that are in a virtual tie for spot 4 on our top 15 list. The ever-popular Sailor Moon Swas our top seller in quantity out of the three, but our next two titles proved fans true dedication with its slightly higher price. Sailor Moon S was dethroned from spot #1, but you’ll soon see why…
4. Persona 3 The Movie 4
With the new Persona 5 game coming out in the next few months, now is a perfect time to get into the Persona franchise if you haven’t already. Despite their naming conventions, Persona 4 isn’t a direct sequel to Person 3, and so on. We can attribute some of Persona’s success to this new game, but Persona is also just that good of a franchise. Hmmm… maybe that’s why it’s so high on the list? Fans are voting yes with their wallets, so give this series a try.
4. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions Heart Throb
From the studio that brought you Sound Euphonium, Free, Beyond the Boundary, K-ON, and even our ever famous best friend Haruhi comes the second season of Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. Sentai let us know that Heart Throb would have an extremely limited print, which is making this an instabuy for the fans who’ve been waiting on this collector’s edition upgrade.
3. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (previously number 2)
Well, if you haven’t heard of this re-occurring top seller by now, you’re either new to anime, or you’re lost. There is no saving you…except if you want to see what all the hype is about! Fans in particular are cashing in on the collector’s edition, which combines both the first and second season into one set, but if you’re a newbie and don’t quite want to spend the bucks yet, we have some cheaper options that include only the first season to start you off.
2. Spice and Wolf
AKA Economics and Wolf Girl. Yeah, that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. Spice and Wolf was one of Yen Press’s first light novel releases, and just this April, the last volume hit bookstores. But that wasn’t the end for this strong 17 volume series. On August 30th, we got word that Yen Press would be releasing an Anniversary Collector’s Edition combining all 17 novels in a gorgeous 900+ page hardcover book. One day later, the last day of August, it hit number two in our top sellers for the entire month. To say fans went wild is an understatement. It’s a title so popular, it’s sold out everywhere.
1. Sailor Moon Crystal (previously number 8)
Why was Sailor Moon S bumped down to spot number 4? That’s because Sailor Moon Crystal got bumped up to number 1 of course! What would this list be without Sailor Moon dominating it every month? This recent reboot of the original Sailor Moon has been a great chance for newer and younger fans to jump into the series while older fans enjoy a slightly different story and new content that they have yet to experience. And it’s now in stock at Right Stuf Anime!
